Our Partners and Program Implementers

Embers

EMBERS has been supporting Indigenous Youth through their unique, award winning employment program / social enterprise, in addition to their Skills Training programs. While they serve all people facing barriers to employment, 40% of the people they serve are Indigenous, and some 15% fall into the category of Indigenous youth. In 2020, Embers Staffing employed over 2,300 individuals that face barriers to employment, in a variety of industry sector settings from construction, warehousing to administration.

Operating for nearly 20 Years, through their social enterprise EMBERS Staffing Solutions, they have been training and providing support for employment to at-risk and youth (one of the multiple barriered populations we serve) to help them transition into sustainable employment using a person centred, individually tailored process that starts where people ‘are at’ in their life. They provide support and skills training to remove barriers and move marginalized people up the career ladder. This has allowed them to develop an extensive network in the STEM community that can serve as practical mentors to BIPOC students.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Canada

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is a self-development program available to young people from age 14 to 25th. As of April 2021, over 500,000 young people from Canada, and 10 million youth in 143 other countries have received the award.

Today, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award - Canada can be found right across the country, engaging over 20,000 young people and over 2,600 Award Leaders annually. Their program is run in cities, rural and remote areas, through government and independent schools, universities and colleges, and a wide range of organizations such as Cadets, Scouts, Girl Guides, Indigenous youth groups, new immigrant support programs, sports clubs, employers, youth detention centres and community youth organizations.

IDRF

We are working with IDRF to expand upon their successful Women in Coding Program. This initiative was started 4 years ago and focused on providing Muslim women and girls with digital and STEM skills. It has a proven record graduating 200 students and a 100% job rate. We will be expanding their curriculum and reach through Coding in Colour.

Their education programs provide children and youth with access to high-quality education. By teaching skills that make students employable, we aim to bring children out of poverty and improve their long-term well-being.

Licensed 2 Learn

The L2L Program provides students with training to help them develop the skills they need to effectively support, and tutor their peers. One of the fundamental components of the program is the L2L Trainers.

The L2L Team includes over 30 Trainers, each with over 25 years of experience as teachers, and administrators in the Canadian public education system.

Each year over 4,000 students participate in L2L across Canada. Half of these students receive certification as L2L Tutors. They complete the Tutor Training Program, and dedicate a minimum of 10 hours to supporting their peers by facilitating peer-tutoring.

The other half participate as L2L Peers. These students receive academic support from L2L Tutors. They meet with their L2L Tutor and learn how they can adapt their learning strategies to overcome the challenges they face.
